Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna is launched under beti bachao beti padhao in which a small deposit for girl child is made. It is launched by the central government for the welfare of girls. This scheme financially secures the future of girl child.

WHAT IS SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJNA? 

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna was launched by the Central government of India to help parents to raise the amount for higher education and other expenses of their girl child. It is dedicated to the betterment of girl child and launched under the beti bachao beti padhao campaign. It is a small step to stop gender discrimination. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna will abolish sex discrimination, protection of girls and will boost up the higher education of girls. Sukanya samriddhi yojna launched in 2015 lies under the Ministry Of Women And Child Development and it’s basically a savings scheme.

HOW TO APPLY FOR SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJANA? 

Documents Required

  •  The account can be opened by a parent or legal guardian of the girl child
  •  The girl child must be below the age of 10 year
  •  Only one account is allowed for a girl child.
  • A family can open only 2 SSY scheme accounts.

Fill the form of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana by using details of girl child and their parents. Following details are mandatory to be filled in application form of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana:-

  • Primary Account Holder- Name of Girl Child
  • Joint Holder- Name of A parent or legal guardian.
  • Initial deposit amount
  • Cheque/DD Number and Date for the initial deposit
  • Date of Birth of girl child along with Birth Certificate details
  • Identity of Parent or legal guardian such as Driving License, Aadhaar, etc.
  • Present and Permanent Address (as per ID document of the parent or legal guardian)
  • Details of other KYC proofs such as PAN, Voter ID card, etc

OFFLINE

For application of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, one can visit participating banks or post offices to open an account. Open the account and submit an amount between ₹250 to ₹1.5 lakh. After the complete process, your account under Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana will get activated.

FEATURES AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJANA

•Principle converts into an amount with a rate of interest of 7.6%. And tax benefits under 80C of income tax Act. 

•After opening an account under Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, one can  withdraw the amount only when a girl attains age of 18. 

•Amount can be withdrawn either for education or for marriage. 

BENEFITS OF SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJANA

•Earlier girls did not get proper education due to financial problems. But now money will not resist girls from pursuing higher education. Amount deposited in the SSY account will act as a positive catalyst in educating girls. 

•Savings for girls’ marriage begins with her birth. An SSY account will initiate these savings with more interest. 

•Hope Sex determination, killing of girl child, Gender discrimination will stop after this step of government of India. 

•Higher Interest Rate. 

•Deposits can be made in the account till the completion of a period of fifteen years from the date of the account’s opening.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA OF SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJANA

•The guardian of the girl child can open an account after the birth of the girl child till she attains the age of 10 years.

•Only one account is allowed per child.

•In one family, this account can be opened under this scheme for a maximum of two girl children in one family. 

•Girl child can operate her SSY account once she attains the age of 18.

FAQ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question- How long will the sukanya samriddhi yojana account be active?

Answer- The payment duration for SSY accounts is 15 years, and the maturity period is at least 21 years.

Question- Who is eligible to withdraw funds from the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana?

Answer- Only the girl kid in whose name the account is opened will be able to withdraw money from her SSY account when it reaches maturity. If the girl kid is under the age of 18, the guardian may remove the funds.

Question- What are the disadvantages of SSY? 

Answer- Premature withdrawal is not permitted unless there is death of a child. 

This account is beneficial only if you are looking for long term investment. 

Question- Is Sukanya samriddhi tax free?

Answer- Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana offers the following tax benefits to those enrolled in the scheme. Investments made towards this scheme are eligible for tax deduction under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. This deduction is subject to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh towards this scheme.
