Central Government Scheme for Pregnant Ladies

The Government of India has launched many central government schemes for pregnant ladies. Central government schemes for pregnant ladies has been a very important step to ensure assured availability of all facilities to pregnant women near their homes, especially at the time of delivery in the remote areas of the country including rural areas of Uttarakhand and Bundelkhand region as given in the Annexure.

Number of Central Government Schemes for Pregnant ladies are launched as initiatives to provide financial and medical support to all pregnant women including women belonging to economically weaker sections during their pregnancy and delivery in Government hospitals. 

Few List of Central government schemes for pregnant ladies are mentioned below:

• Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) 

One of the Central government schemes for pregnant ladies, Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), was launched on 12 April 2005 for the welfare of pregnant women. JSY is a central government scheme for pregnant ladies,  which integrates cash assistance with delivery and post-delivery care. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Government is the Nodal Ministry of this central government scheme for pregnant ladies. Only those who fall below the poverty level are qualified for this central government scheme for pregnant ladies. 

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

The Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana, the central government scheme for pregnant ladies, was launched by the Government on 4th May 2017 under the Ministry of Finance. This central government scheme for pregnant ladies is a government pension scheme with an aim to provide social security to senior citizens and for the protection of the elderly against a fall in the interest income due to unfavourable market conditions in the future. This central government scheme for pregnant women, which is a pension scheme, can be availed before 31st March 2020 by senior citizens aged 60 years or above. 

• Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan

On 31st July 2016 the central government scheme for pregnant ladies named Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan was launched by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India. This central government scheme for pregnant ladies aims to provide assured, comprehensive and quality antenatal care, free of cost, universally to all pregnant women on the 9th of every month. 

Under this central government scheme for pregnant ladies, which has now became a campaign, a minimum package of antenatal care services is to be provided to the beneficiaries on the 9th day of every month at the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Clinics to ensure that every pregnant woman receives at least one checkup in the 2nd/ 3rd trimester of pregnancy. If the 9th day of the month is a Sunday / a holiday, then the Clinic should be organized on the next working day.

Central government always nourishes the root of women by launching many central government schemes. Central government scheme for pregnant ladies maintains and promotes women’s health.
