It was officially launched by PM Narendra Modi in Kolkata on 9 May 2015.This scheme will be linked also to the bank accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana scheme.

OBJECTIVE AND BENEFITS OF PRADHAN MANTRI JEEVAN JYOTI BIMA YOJANA
Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana was launched with the aim to provide life coverage to the poor and low-income section of the society. The scheme offers a maximum assured amount of Rs.2 lakhs. This scheme is for citizens between the age group of 18 years to 50 years.
