Operation Dost | India’s care for the earthquake victims of Turkey, Syria

Turkey got hit by the 7.8 Ritcher earthquake. This catastrophic earthquake caused severe damage. While helping Turkey, India launched a new mission, Operation Dost. Earthquakes are natural disasters which may destroy everything. 

During the corona pandemic, when India was badly affected, Turkey sent aircraft full of medicines. Now it’s India’s turn that’s why India has launched Operation Dost. 

Aircraft carrying medicines, relief materials, NDRF teams, etc are sent to Turkey under Operation Dost. The aircraft started its journey from the Hindon Air Base in India. It operates under the Western Command and is located in Ghaziabad, UP. It is the largest air base in Asia.

On Wednesday the Ministry of External Affairs gave a statement, ” India has been able to send more than 250 personnel, specialised equipment and other relief material amounting to more than 135 tons to Türkey on 5 C-17 IAF aircraft. As regards Syria, more than 6 tons of emergency relief assistance has been delivered through a C130J IAF aircraft to Damascus.”

As per External Affair Minister S Jaishankar’s tweet on Thursday,”The army field hospital in Iskenderun, Hatay, Turkiye has started functioning with running Medical, Surgical & Emergency Wards; X-Ray Lab & Medical Store. “

Most recent tweet of S Jaishankar on 9th Feb 2023 informs us that, “The sixth #OperationDost flight reaches Turkiye. More search and rescue teams, dog squads, essential search & access equipment, medicines and medical equipment ready for deployment in the relief efforts.”
