Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana was launched in 2017 by The Government Of India under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PMMVY is implemented across the counter in accordance with the provision of the National Food Security Act, 2013. The Ministry of Women and Child Development is the Nodal Ministry for PMMVY. Indian women suffer a lot and faces sexual assault. 90% Indian women are undernourished and anaemic. Such women give birth to a low weight baby. Until the month women work and just after delivery, lactating mothers continue to earn. Physically they are not fit but they resume work due to economic and social distress.

Main objective of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is to provide adequate compensation for wage loss so that women can take adequate rest after giving birth. Secondly,an adequate amount for better health of a lactating mother.

How to apply for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)?

Eligible women can apply in Anganwadi Centre Or unapproved Health facility depending upon the implementing department for that particular State /UT.For registration, the beneficiary shall submit the prescribed application Form 1 – A , complete in all respects, along with the relevant documents and undertaking/consent duly signed by her and her husband, at the AWC/ approved Health facility. While submitting the form, the beneficiary will be required to submit her and her husband’s Aadhaar details with their written consents, her/husband/family member’s Mobile Number and her Bank/Post Office account details. 

Application forms can be collected from Anganwadi Centre or from the official website of The Nodal Ministry.

Implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

Implementing Platform: The implementing platform of the scheme is the Integrated Child Development Service/Health Infrastructure.

Implementing Department: Apart from the seven states or Union Territories (mentioned below), the implementing department is the Department of Social Welfare or the Department of Women and Child Development of the respective state.

For the states of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Chandigarh, and Andhra Pradesh, the scheme will be administered by the Department of Health and Family Welfare or the Department of Health.

Benefits of  Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

•Women can take proper rest and heal after pregnancy. 

•From a given amount under PMMVY, women will get a nutritious diet. 

•Cash benefits of 5000 are provided to women. Amount is provided in three instalments of ₹1000, ₹2000 and ₹2000.

•Beneficiaries will also receive incentives that are provided under Janani Suraksha Yojana. 

Eligibility criteria for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers who have their first child on or after 1 January 2017 are eligible for compensation under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. 

Stillbirth/Miscarriage: In case of stillbirth or miscarriage, the below-mentioned conditions apply:

Under the scheme, the beneficiary is allowed to receive benefits only once.

The remaining instalments can be claimed by the beneficiary during any future pregnancy.

Therefore, in case a beneficiary suffers miscarriage after the first instalment, only during a future pregnancy will she be able to receive the second and third instalments. However, the eligibility criteria must be met by the individual in order to receive the benefits. Similarly, if the beneficiary suffers a miscarriage or stillbirth after receiving the second instalment, she would be able to receive the third instalment in case of a pregnancy in the future.

Question- Is PMMVY applicable for a second child?

Answer- PMMVY has been revamped and included as a sub-scheme under Mission Shakti. In the revamped PMMVY maternity benefit amounting to Rs. 6000/- is also to be provided for the second child, but only if, the second child a girl child, to discourage pre-birth sex selection and to promote and celebrate the girl child.

Question- Who is not eligible for PMMVY?

Answer- In the case of infant mortality, if she has already claimed all three instalments, she will not be able to claim any benefits under the scheme.

Question- How do i get the benefits of PMMVY? 

Answer- You may apply for benefits through the PMMVY scheme either within 730 days from the Last Menstrual Period (LMP) date or 460 days from the date of childbirth (in cases where the LMP date is unavailable), as long as you fulfill the remaining eligibility requirements of the program.

Question- Who can take benefit of PMMVY? 

Answer- The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, funded by the central government, which offers a cash incentive of ₹ 5000/- to Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers. This amount is provided in three installments and is deposited directly into the bank or post office accounts of the beneficiaries.

Question- What is the age limit for PMMVY? 

Answer- The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is designed for women aged 19 years or older who are either pregnant or lactating, and it specifically targets their first live birth.
